Bonnie Prince Billy: “New Partner”
Last summer I was with Lisa while house sitting off of Germantown Road, up where it winds improbably. It was the hottest day of the summer, up over 102. She left me in the house for a show at the zoo. I got into an unattended beer fridge and cranked up my iPod and set to wandering the small house. At the time, I was making a side journey into some of the Bonnie Prince I’d missed in my initial zeal of discovery.
I took out my camera and came up with this video.
Something in that house made me feel the song. I listened to it over and over. Maybe it was the sad, hot light coming in from over the Pacific Coast Range. I wandered all over the property, shooting crude hand held video of a complete stranger’s creature comforts. As I watch the video and listen to the words, I feel at least somewhat invasive of her privacy. The song was alive in her home though.
